Students are required to complete at least 24 units (for full-time students) / 30 units (for part-time students) of courses and the MPhil thesis, and to pass the oral examination for graduation.

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should
- have majored in history or a related field;
- demonstrate their proficient command of language(s) which is/are crucial to their research, for instance, to read/use documents vital to their proposed historical inquiry;
- submit the following materials together with the application:
- A research proposal in either Chinese or English. The language of the research proposal is recommended to align with the linguistic preference of potential supervisors;
- A literature review (minimum 1000 words) of your research proposal in the language of the thesis will be;
- An essay / term paper on history in either Chinese or English.
An interview may be required by the Division.
