• Established by the University Grants Committee (UGC) in 2025/26, the Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies (FTSS) provides scholarships for local students to pursue designated taught postgraduate programmes.
  • The main objectives of FTSS are to attract more local students to pursue advanced studies in priority areas conducive to the development of Hong Kong and expand the pool of high-calibre talents for various domains, while further promoting the development of our city into an international hub for post-secondary education.

Duration and Amount of the Fellowship

  • FTSS awardees are required to pay a minimum tuition fee being the prevailing rate of the UGC-funded full-time degree programmes (i.e. HK$44,500 (for the 2025/26 intake) and HK$47,000 (for the 2026/27 intake), and the differences will be subsidised by the scholarships subject to a cap of HK$100,000 for each student for the whole taught postgraduate programme, regardless of the actual study period and mode of study.
  • The scholarship will be used for the settlement of the tuition fee only.

 

Eligibility and Assessment Criteria

  • Local students1, both full-time and part-time, admitted2 to the designated TPg programmes of the University for the 2025/26 and the 2026/27 Intakes are eligible to apply for the Scheme of that intake (Note: Applications for FTSS for 2026/27 will only be invited in June 2026).
  • To avoid "double benefit", students received financial support from other public sources for the purpose of meeting tuition fee expenses would not be eligible for the FTSS. Those who have been awarded a scholarship under the Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme in the past for another programme shall also not be eligible for this scholarship.
  • The University will take into account the following criteria for the selection of scholarship awardees (include but not limited to):
    • Readiness and ability to contribute significantly to the development of Hong Kong or the Greater Bay Area after graduation from the TPg programme;
    • Academic achievements;
    • Professional qualifications;
    • Relevant working experience; and
    • Achievements in other areas


Notes:

  1. Only local students of eligible programmes can apply for the scholarship under FTSS. Applicants would be considered a non-local student if he/she is a holder of the following documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR:
  • Student visa/entry permit; or
  • Visa/entry permit under the Immigration Arrangement for Non-local Graduates; or
  • Dependent visa/entry permit who were 18 years old or above when he/she was issued with such visa/entry permit by the Director of Immigration
  1. Only applicants who have got an admission offer, accepted the offer and settled the admission deposit will be considered for the Scheme.

 

 

Application Process

Stage 1

Application Submission

  • To submit an application for the UGC-approved TPg Programmes (for 2026/27 intake only since the application for the approved programmes for 2025/26 admission have already closed).
  • Contact the respective Programme Office to obtain an application form for the Scheme.
  • Applicants for the Scheme should have admitted to the designated TPg programmes (i.e. have accepted the offer with the admission deposit paid by the time they submit the application for the Scheme).
  • Each applicant can only submit one application for the Scheme.
  • Submit an application for the Scheme, together with a copy of the HKID card and supporting documents as requested, to the respective Programme Office by the deadline set by individual Programme.
Stage 2

Selection

  • Programme Office and the Faculty Office to review the applications and submit the nominations to the Graduate School for selection.
Stage 3

Result Announcement

  • The Graduate School will announce the selection results by July 2025 for the 2025/26 intake, and by July 2026 for the 2026/27 intake.
