Programme Information

MPhil Stream*
 

Students are required to complete a total of 18 units of courses. In addition, students are required to take 6 units of courses of a third language and register for a Thesis Research course each term.

Graduation Requirements

PhD Stream*
 

Students are required to complete a total of 28 units of courses. In addition, students are required to take 9 units of a third language and register for a Thesis Research course each term.

Tuition Fee
The tuition fee will be HK$47,000 for 2026/27 and HK$49,500 for 2027/28, regardless of the study mode.
Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School,

MPhil applicants should submit: 

  1. a written statement explaining the purpose of the application;
  2. a research proposal in English (should not exceed 5 single-spaced type-written pages);
  3. two samples of writing (e.g. term paper or project reports).

PhD applicants should submit: 

  1. a written statement explaining the purpose of the application;
  2. a detail research proposal in English (should not exceed 10 single-spaced type-written pages);
  3. two samples of writing (e.g. a copy of Master's thesis and a representative research paper).

Shortlisted applicants are required to attend interview and take written test.

Main Round: 1 December 2025
Clearing Round: 31 March 2026
(Applications in Clearing Round will only be considered subject to availability of places.)

HKPFS Application Deadline
(for PhD programmes only)
  1. To submit an initial application to RGC: By 12 noon, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time); and
  2. To submit a full application to CUHK: By 11:59 pm, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time).
