Programme Information

The Programme is research-oriented and students may be required to enrol in formal courses as deemed necessary.

Students must fulfil the qualifying examination requirements before submitting their dissertation.

Tuition Fee
The tuition fee will be HK$47,000 for 2026/27 and HK$49,500 for 2027/28, regardless of the study mode.
Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants are expected to hold a Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field.

Applicants should submit:

1. A curriculum vitae (must use the template from the Music Department's website: CV template);

2. Two writing samples in English;

3. A research proposal with bibliography written in English (3,000 - 4,000 words excluding bibliography).

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

Clearing Round: 31 March 2026

HKPFS Application Deadline
(for PhD programmes only)
  1. To submit an initial application to RGC: By 12 noon, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time); and
  2. To submit a full application to CUHK: By 11:59 pm, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time).
