Programme Information

The programme is research-oriented. Students should show their ability for independent work and inform themselves in depth about the fields of knowledge relevant to the topic of their projects. Students will be required to obtain at least a total of 38 units, make presentation in two seminars a year, submit a research thesis and pass an oral examination for graduation.

  • Eye Disease Research: Glaucoma, Cataract, Macular Diseases, Corneal Diseases, Ocular Oncology and Refractive Errors
  • Clinical studies and trials of eye diseases
  • Molecular Genetics and Genomic Research
  • Gene Function Research
  • Cell Biology
  • Animal Research (Eye Disease Model)
  • Ocular Imaging (Clinical & Experimental)
  • Epidemiology of eye disease

Tuition Fee
The tuition fee will be HK$47,000 for 2026/27 and HK$49,500 for 2027/28, regardless of the study mode.
Admission Requirements

In addition to the general requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should have a Master’s degree in a field related to life sciences or the degree of MBChB or equivalent.

  1. To submit an initial application to RGC: By 12 noon, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time); and
  2. To submit a full application to CUHK: By 11:59 pm, 1 December 2025 (Hong Kong time).
